Wrought ironwork is technically a misnomer that modern day metalworkers seem to apply to any couple of lengths of steel bar that they've welded together to serve whatever purpose. To the purist, wrought iron is an increasingly rare raw material that was used extensively by traditional blacksmiths because it became very soft and easily workable when heated in their forge. Nowadays, due to the scarcity of wrought iron, it would be fairer to define wrought ironwork as any steel or iron, that has been heated, softened and shaped by hammer on anvil to be incorporated into any structure being made by a blacksmith.
At Black Forge Art, our blacksmiths do a lot of this - skilful but time consuming, consequently not cheap, but a unique hand crafted example of a dying skill.
