· How do your weathervanes work?

Every Black Forge Art™ weathervane is expertly balanced to rotate freely on our weatherproof stainless-steel pin and precision ball bearing mechanism. This ensures smooth, consistent movement in any breeze and long-term reliability.

Your chosen design and arrow simply sleeve onto the hardened bearing pin, creating a durable, low-maintenance pivot point.

Powered entirely by the wind — no batteries required.

· What does a weathervane do?

A weathervane (or wind-vane) is used to show the wind direction — telling you where the wind is coming from. The earliest versions were simple arrows with a fletched (pennant) tail.

Decorative motifs like the cockerel/rooster later became traditional. While many modern pieces are purely ornamental, every Black Forge Art weathervane is both decorative and fully functional, accurately indicating wind direction while enhancing your property.

· What steel are your weathervanes made from?

We manufacture our weathervanes from 304-grade stainless steel, with welds in 316-grade stainless steel for superior strength and corrosion resistance.

Our Stainless Steel Collection features entirely stainless-steel assemblies that are rust-free and backed by a 15-year guarantee. They require no galvanising or extra protective coatings.

· How are your weathervanes painted?

All designs are professionally powder-coated in a deep, traditional black finish. Alternative colours can be arranged on request as part of our bespoke service.
